For three Tuesday nights this summer in Sublimity residents will have an excuse not to cook and to spend the evening mingling with friends and neighbors.
Sublimity First Tuesdays in the Park will happen July 2, Aug. 6 and Sept. 3.
“The city has been looking for ways to bring the community together and we wanted to have an event during the summertime that could accomplish this,” said Carrie Corcoran, spokesperson for the City of Sublimity.
Haley Hamilton and Tammi Burns initiated First Tuesday in the Park last year as a way for Sublimity residents to meet local business owners.
“We had such great results that Tammi agreed to take this on again and has enlisted the help of the Santiam Referral Group to make this year another success,” Corcoran said.
Organizers believe this year’s kick-off Tuesday will have nicer weather than last year’s, which got rained out, causing the band to cancel and yet still drawing the support of five vendors. With the shift of this year’s Tuesdays to July, August and September, Corcoran expects to see more vendors and an even bigger turn-out.
“The August event will be combined with National Night Out, which is hosted by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the city,” she said. “The citizens will have a chance to meet and greet with our new deputy, Tom Barber, at this time as well.”
Barber replaces Deputy Chris Bangs, who is moving to the detective’s unit at the end of June, Corcoran said.
Vendors will display their offerings on from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the south side of the St. Boniface Church Park, across from Sublimity School, 371 E. Main St. They will offer food, farmer’s market-style, as well as items from home-based businesses, Corcoran said.
Tony Graham & Harmonic Dan will perform on July 2. Never2Late will appear on Aug. 6. Stay tuned for who will entertain on Sept. 3.
Vendors can participate by picking up an application at Sublimity City Hall. For information, call 503-769-5475.
