Teachers receive MAP classroom grants

Maps Community Foundation recently awarded a total of $35,000 in grants to 41 K-12 teachers in the Mid-Willamette Valley Region, including Taylor Guidos of Cascade High School and Julia McFerron of Turner Elementary.

Guidos will use his grant money to purchase Lego sets and STEM project boxes to provide more hands-on educational opportunities for his special education students.

“This grant gave our class access to five separate Lego sets, and has helped my students gain relationships with other students, help regulate their emotions, and give them confidence to achieve their goals,” Guidos said.

McFerron will purchase supplies for a new after-school art club that will lead a school-wide project to create a mural for the side of the gym.

“I am so grateful to the people at MAPS for the $1,000 grant this year,” she said. “
