The Regis Rams are involved in a gripping four-team race for the three playoff spots in Special District 2 baseball. Regis is 9-1 in league and ranked No. 8 by the OSAA in Class 2A-1A. Kennedy is a half-game back at 8-1, with Country Christian (8-2) and Culver (7-3) also in the hunt. Kennedy dealt Regis its lone league loss, a 4-3 decision April 7 in Mount Angel. The two teams battle again in Stayton on May 5.
Track and field: Regis also is making its presence felt in track and field. Zach Gescher (11.19) leads the state in the 100 at the Class 2A level. In addition, the Rams’ 4×100 boys relay team (44.64) is ranked second and the girls team is third (53.40).
Kimberly Webb is second in the discus (115-3), and Monica Webb is third in the long jump (15-43/4) and fourth in the high jump (5-1).
Patrick Bladorn, meanwhile, has been putting up strong marks for Cascade. He ranks second in Class 4A in the high jump (6-4) and is tied for sixth in the pole vault (13-6).

Cascade AD honored: George Milionis, who served as athletic director at the Turner school from 1968 through 1995, was inducted into the Oregon Athletic Directors Association Hall of Fame on April 12 at the association’s annual conference in Sunriver.
Milionis also coached basketball and track and field, was a long-time fixture at the Class 3A boys golf tournament and was instrumental in facilities upgrades at Cascade as well as helping organize and promote the Meet of Champions, which remains a mid-valley track and field institution.
Milionis was named athletic director of the year by the OADA in 1985 and received similar honors from Northwest and national groups in 1987 and 1995.
Stayton dance: Our Town was happy to honor the Stayton dance team for its 12th consecutive OSAA title in its April 1 edition. Unfortunately, our efforts to publish a picture in that edition went awry because of miscommunications. We are happy to rectify the situation. The Highlights totaled 91.31 points March 22 in the Class 4A-1A competition at the Memorial Coliseum in Portland, well ahead of runner-up Valley Catholic (84.47) and third-place Gladstone (84.25). It was the highest point total the Stayton squad has achieved at state, and the excellent showing came amid a new framework for the OSAA competition.
Boston Marathon: Wendy Garrett, 35, of Turner, was one of the 32,000 runners who participated in the April 21 running of the marathon. Garrett finished in 5:17:59.
