Get moving: Walkers and runners invited to 22nd annual event

Runners from a previous Santiam Memorial Hospital Fun Run and Healthy Walk.Celebrate health and wellness at Santiam Memorial’s 22nd annual Fun Run & Health Walk, Saturday, June 4, within eyeshot of new construction.

“It’s a family event to encourage families to get out and exercise, to spend healthy time together,” Hudson said. “We say ‘kick off your summer in a healthy manner.’”

Fun Run &Health Walk will start with registration at 8 a.m. with the run/walk starting an hour later.

The event offers 3K and 5K walks, 3K and 5K runs, and an 8K run, all monitored by a new digital chip timing system. Prizes will be awarded to first-place male and female finishers in all divisions. Cost is $15 with a T-shirt (must pre-register), $5 without a T-shirt, or $35 family rate with T-shirts.

Live music by the Bill Hughes Trio, hot coffee, cold smoothies, fresh fruit and scones will add to the festivities.

“This is a way to have a great time while celebrating health,” Hudson said.  She encourages everyone to “get out and walk.”

More than 500 runners and walkers of all ages participated in last year’s event, and Hudson hopes for even more this year.

“I’d encourage people to come out and give it a shot,” she said. “It’s a fun way to start your Saturday morning.”

Because of the construction project, participants are asked to park at Foothills Church, 975 Fern Ridge Road SE.
