Aumsville has a new market, thanks to the Singh family.
“Me and my family have been in the c-store business since 2001,” said Hinder Singh, the patriarch of the family, of the newly opened Stop N Save. “We got the first store in Salem. Since then we’ve expanded to a total of seven stores.”
The former Aumsville IGA market shut down last February, and after reading about the closure, Singh said family members decided to try their luck at a large format store. The family’s six convenience stores are in Salem, Brooks, Sublimity and Stayton. Harry Singh manages the Aumsville store.
“We’re glad, so happy that it is open,” said Mayor Harold White of the Aumsville Stop N Save. “And that with the competition, it is important that it gets the support of the community.”
Singh said Stop N Save, which opened Feb. 16, will offer a “full-service store with competitive prices. The only thing missing right now is the meat department, which is coming soon.”
The store currently offers dairy products, fresh produce, beer and wine, frozen foods, and a deli, with tables and chairs to enjoy light snacks and drinks.
Aumsville resident Ted Shepard said, “It’s nice to see a fresh, cleaned up look” of the market, which has eight employees.
“Personally, I’ve known the family for 10 years,” Shepard added. “I wish them well, and so does the community.”
City Administrator Maryann Hills said many people inquired about when the market was to open at city hall. “We are hoping it will be a win-win and wish Stop N Save much success in Aumsville!”
Hours are Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. – 10 p.m. ; Saturday 7 a.m. – 10 p.m., and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. The store is at 210 Main Street. An opening celebration will be held in the near future, Singh said.
