Sarah Tabor is excited to be honored as Regis High School’s Future First Citizen for 2013 by the Stayton/Sublimity Chamber of Commerce.

“I credit both my parents, Steve and Bonnie Tabor, for my success,” said Tabor, a senior at Regis. “They have done an incredible job raising me, and I love them both so much. They have both been great role models for me.”

The third oldest of five children, Tabor has lived in Stayton all her life. She enjoys spending time with family and friends. She also enjoys swimming and running as well as sewing, which she learned through her participation in 4-H with Barbara Kreilich.

Regis High School Counselor Mike Bauer credited Tabor with solid participation in cross country, swim team and cheerleading. These activities, Tabor said, “taught me the importance of determination and giving something your best.”

“She has also acted and served backstage in several Regis drama productions including Willy Wonka, Back to the Eighties and Don’t Tell Mother,” Bauer said. “She helped with activities at her church, is a member of the National Honor Society, and participated in food and blood drives.”

Tabor attends the Life Teen Youth Group for the Santiam Vicariate.

“I have helped with their fundraisers, as well as volunteering on the core planning team,” she said. “Around the community, I have also volunteered alongside my grandma, Carol Tabor, with Friends of the Library’s book sale and at their bookstore.”

Working on student council from her freshman year as a class representative led to her election as student body president.

“Sarah’s ability to get things done for our students in her capacity as student body president is extraordinary,” Bauer said.

Bauer said Tabor involves and inspires others to contribute their talents to whatever project is at hand.

“Planning student activities requires a lot of coordinating as well as time and energy,” Tabor said. “I’m happy to say we have an excellent team this year on Regis’ student government!”

After graduating from Regis, Tabor plans to attend Western Oregon University or Southern Oregon University, majoring in communication studies.

“I am very interested in real estate and interior design,” she said. “My hope is to one day to be able to flip houses. I would love to buy them, restore them to their former glory, and then sell them to someone ready to make a home!”
