The Stayton/Sublimity Chamber of Commerce Awards for 2014 have been announced.
“There were so many worth nominations, it was difficult for the selection committee to choose,” said Kelly Schreiber, executive director of the Stayton/Sublimity Chamber of Commerce. “Aren’t we luck to live in a community that has so many people and businesses dedicated to making (it) thrive!”
Peter Whitney earned the Distinguished Service Award. He was Rotary president for three terms and participates in Rotary fundraisers and club activities. He also has served on the SSCOC and Santiam Golf Club boards. Nominators called him “a selfless leader and volunteer.” Prior to retirement from Boldt, Carlisle & Smith, he represented businesses via sponsoring various activities. Whitney was nominated by the Stayton Area Rotary.
Taking the Chamber Award of Excellence for Large Business, more than 15 employees, is Summit Cleaning & Restoration. Owners Brian and Angie Harper were nominated by Brenda Moore, for providing excellent service and “going above and beyond to help the community.” Summit sponsored the Father/Daughter Ball and hosted a blood drive.
The Chamber Award of Excellence for Small Business, less than 15 employees, recognizes Our Town Monthly, nominated by Allison McKenzie, executive director of GROW-EDC. Our Town, she said, “supports the community with great articles; (it) tells the stories that make us proud to be a part of the community.”
The First Impressions Award went to Carrie Corcoran, finance director and city recorder for the city of Sublimity, for her efforts with the city’s new welcome sign, flower baskets and lighted wreaths. Corcoran was nominated by Janine Moothart.
The Awards Celebration will begin with lunch at 11:30 a.m. followed by the program, noon to 1 p.m. on Feb. 19 at Foothills Church, 975 Fern Ridge Road. Cost is $17, due to the chamber by Feb. 13. For tickets or information, call SSCOC at 503-769-3464.
