Regis High School has revived the STAR Guild organization, a group which facilitates expanding and supporting the arts programs at Regis High School. The Guild began in 2006 under the leadership of Tim Jaegar; through staff changes it lost momentum but has now been brought back under the leadership of Sue Harteloo as president, with the support of Regis Principal Joni Gilles and drama director Anna Boedigheimer.

“We’ve picked up momentum again,” Harteloo said. “The main reason the STAR Guild is re-energized is due to Regis’s fabulous drama teacher Anna Boedigheimer. She has so much enthusiasm. She and art teacher Eric Loftin collaborate well, and with the support of Principal Gilles and our new marketing director Janine Moothart, we’re off and running.”

Boedigheimer shares her talents and dedication to the arts with Regis students. She is in her fourth year as drama director. She also works at St. Mary Catholic School as the drama teacher and at Abiqua School in Salem where she leads an after-school drama program.

This year at St. Mary, Boedigheimer’s former student Nick Kintz started an early bird drama program for fifth through eighth graders who meet on Monday from 7 to 8:25 a.m. and Thursday from 6:45 to 7:55 a.m. Kintz serves as director of the early bird program; Boedigheimer as assistant director to help ensure the program gets running successfully in its first year.

At Regis, Boedigheimer directs two shows, a play in the fall and a musical in the spring. This fall’s play is a murder mystery comedy is, The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940, which will be performed Nov. 15, 16 and 17 at 7 p.m. at Regis.

“The Guild will support drama and the applied arts, and we do have a desire to bring back a music program at Regis,” Harteloo added. “I look forward to seeing the arts be as much of a community draw as athletics are. We have so much talent in the arts that goes somewhat unnoticed.”

The list of proposed Guild members includes voting members Sue Harteloo, Diane Allen-Jackson, Patti Sampson, Janine Christiansen, Nick Kintz and ex-officio members Joni Gilles, Anna Boedigheimer, Gay Frank, Eric Loftin, Janine Moothart, Caitlyn O’Bryant and Julia Barnes. The group is seeking two additional board members. For  information, contact Harteloo at 503-767-7447 or call Regis High School at 503-769-6243.
