Sublimity School has received a $2,500 grant from Selco Community Credit Union to support a sewing elective in the middle school program.
On Nov. 17, Selco announced the recipients of the 2025 Creative Educator Grants, which totaled $80,268 to 38 schools across 14 Oregon counties.
Among these was a grant for Sublimity School’s “Sew and Grow” elective, led by teacher Katelyn Thomson. The grant amount of $2,500 was the highest allowed to an individual applicant.
Thomson’s grant application said the funding will go toward additional sewing machines and materials to start offering embroidery. This will give students more opportunities to acquire life skills and express creativity, said Thomson.
This was the first year Selco, based in Springfield, awarded the grants after expanding its philanthropic programs in 2024. The maximum individual amount for Creative Educator Grants rose from $1,000 to $2,500, which drew a record 281 applications.
The goal is to support teachers “with creative classroom ideas but lacking funds to get those projects off the ground,” according to Selco’s website.
