Santiam Hearts to Arts (H2A) is organizing a community outreach group to help spread the word about events and explore new programs.
Friends of Hearts to Arts is holding an inaugural meeting Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. in Stewart’s Hall, in Mill City, and supporters of the arts are encouraged to attend and consider becoming members.
Organizer Joyce Royland said on Facebook that a flourishing arts scene has helped make the Santiam Canyon a fulfilling place to live, and H2A has played a vital role in this.
“Residents of the Santiam Canyon enjoy one of the most beautiful and friendly places to live,” said Royland. “Part of the benefit of living here is directly due to the abundance of creativity and originality of its people.”
The proposed group would meet monthly and discuss upcoming and ongoing H2A events and how members could volunteer, either by lending their expertise or simply spreading the word. Members would also be encouraged to consider possible new programs that could showcase their skillsets and interests.
One example of a recent community-initiated program through H2A was the Canyon Kids Music Camp, organized over the summer by David and Laura Erickson. They approached H2A with the desire to share their passion for music with students and H2A helped secure a venue and promote and facilitate the event.
Royland said membership in Friends of Hearts to Arts would be an opportunity for local residents to help promote the arts in their own neighborhoods. Membership would be $5 yearly for an individual and $10 yearly for a family, with funds helping support promotional materials and operating costs.Interested residents are encouraged to attend the Sept. 27 meeting and may also contact Royland at [email protected] or through H2A’s website santiamh2a.org.
