More than 800 dancers will kick up their heels at the Oregon Mid-Winter Square Dance Festival, Jan. 23 – 25 at the Linn County Fairgrounds in Albany.
“Mid-Winter Square Dance Festival is a three-day event that all square dancers, round dancers and cloggers can attend,” Karyn Buchheit – a dancer for the past 40 years and member of the City Squares in Silverton – said.
“We have nationally or internationally known callers, cuers and clogging cuers as our featured talent. Local and state callers, cuers and clogging cuers also have stage time. There are over 20 hours of dancing during the weekend.
“This year we are also including English country dancing and line dancing on Saturday.”
While the festival is free to spectators, all dancers must purchase a ribbon, either at the door or online at www.midwinterfestival.com/.
“There are no contests involved with this event – just a lot of dancing and fun,” Buchheit said. “[It’s] an extended square dance event where dancers have a chance to dance to talent that they might not have heard before, connect with friends or make new friends in the square, round and clogging world.”
