William Shakespeare’s work will appear at Regis High School for the first time when students perform A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
“As far as we know, this is the first Shakespeare production Regis has ever done,” drama teacher and play director Anna Boedigheimer said.
“The version we are performing is adapted and much easier to follow. It’s a hilarious production and my students aim to entertain,” she added.
Twenty-four Regis High School theater students will stage the comedy at 7 p.m. Nov. 18, 19 and 20 at Regis High School Student Center.
Boedigheimer has worked with alumni and parents to help prepare the students for the Shakespearean performance.
The play revolves around the adventures of four young lovers, a group of amateur actors and their interactions with the fairies that inhabit a moonlit forest.
The story is a complex farce featuring the confused wanderings of Hermia and Lysander, and Helena and Demetrius.
Their romantic intrigues are complicated by entering the forest where Oberon the King of the Fairies and his Queen Titania preside.
Puck, a fairy full of mischief, is famed for his assessment of the young lovers: “Lord, what fools these mortals be!”
Wit, wisdom and the power struggle between men and women fill the play.
Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door or at Postal Connections in the Roth’s shopping center before the show opens.
