The application process is underway for those seeking scholarships from the Mike Long Youth Benefit Golf Tournament.
The September event at Mallard Creek in Lebanon, the 24th to be held, raised $35,000 for grants and scholarships.
The scholarships are open to seniors from Regis High, Santiam High and Stayton High as well as students from the Oregon Charter Academy who reside in the Santiam Canyon.
Scholarships are awarded based on: community service, school activities, leadership activities, honors/awards and grade point average (GPA).
Scholarships are redeemable at any college, university or trade school within the United States.
Scholarship and grant applications are available to download at www.ybgolf.com/.
Applicants should send five copies of the completed application forms to: Youth Benefit Golf Scholarship Committee, 21 SW 11th Ave., Mill City, OR 97360. The deadline for submission is March 1, 2026.
More than $460,000 has been raised by the tournament through the years with more than 260 grants and 170 scholarships.
The 2025 event was the last scheduled version of the event, named for the long-time community activist who passed away in 2023. Organizers noting that since the death of Long it has been difficult for the core group of people involved to give the event the effort it deserves.
The Long family remains hopeful that someone will step in to run the event. “We appreciate all of our supporters who have, throughout the years, made it possible to provide such important opportunities for youth in the communities we serve,” the Long family said in a statement.
