The search is on – Stayton seeking input on new city manager

Jensen Strategies, an executive recruitment agency, has been hired by Stayton City Council to conduct the recruitment process for the next city manager.

The position was left vacant by the departure of Keith Campbell in September. Campbell is now in service as city manager for Sherwood, Oregon.

Assistant City Manager Alissa Angelo was appointed as city manager pro-tem by the council at its Sept. 20 meeting. Angelo, who has a bachelor’s degree from Western Oregon University, has been employed with the City of Stayton since 2001.

“Jensen Strategies will be gathering input from Council, staff and the public to develop a candidate profile to be adopted by the City Council,” said Angelo, who does not intend to apply. “We expect the position to be advertised in early March 2022.”

Jensen Strategies will host a public input meeting at 6 p.m. on Jan. 13 at the Stayton Community Center.

“This meeting is to gather input from community members on what they’d like to see in our next city manager,” Angelo said. “The meeting will be hybrid with the option of participating virtually.”

Angelo said anyone interested in attending the meeting virtually, should email the city at least three hours prior to the meeting at [email protected] for details on how to join in.

The city manager’s responsibilities include:

 • Attending all meetings of the council and keeping the council advised of the affairs and needs of the city.

• Seeing that council policy is implemented.

• Seeing that all laws and ordinances are enforced.

• Seeing that the provisions of all franchises, leases, contracts, permits and privileges granted by the city are observed.

• Oversight and management of the annual city budget.

• Appointing and supervising all department heads and other employees except as otherwise provided by the city charter.

Angelo’s role as assistant city manager includes serving as the human resources manager, elections officer, deputy city recorder duties, and managing all city records.

In 2013, Angelo received designation as a certified municipal clerk from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks and participated in the 2018 Northwest Women’s Leadership Academy. She now serves on the NWWLA Steering Committee.
